Friendship Bracelets and Encouragement Cards to Celebrate Pride Month

Please join us to celebrate with our LGBTQ+ community during Pride Month! We will be taking it back to those summer camp days by making friendship bracelets and creating encouragement cards to spread love, support, and inclusion.

Community Build with VSUW and the Orchard Learning Center

Please join Valley of the Sun United Way for an exciting morning of gardening at the new Brooks Community Center to celebrate Earth Day!

About the Orchard: Located in South Phoenix, the Orchard Community Learning Center supports community by creating a flourishing local food system, and offering a wide range of educational opportunities designed to bring awareness to, and ignite passion for urban farming and community exchange.

Ongoing projects include planting a drought-resistant native foods garden, and the transformation of an unused plot of land into an outdoor education classroom and performance space. And of course, the weeding and pruning never ends!

Community Hygiene Kit Build with Valley of the Sun United Way

Come join VSUW to assemble Hygiene Kits for individuals experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County. Many are experiencing homelessness for the first time possibly due to a job loss, home foreclosure, medical bills, or a variety of other circumstances. Other individuals have been homeless for a year or more, or multiple periods (chronic), and have a disability.

These kits provide essential personal care items to local individuals experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity to help ensure their overall well-being.

Community Snack Pack Build at VSUW

Join us at our office for a Community Snack Pack Build! We will be assembling 1,000 Snack Packs to give out to the community to help combat food insecurity. Beneficiaries include nurses at Title 1 schools, Grassroots non-profit partners and more!

Martin Luther King Jr. was a social activist and community leader who, with his grand vision and voice, changed the lives of millions, and what better way to honor is legacy than to serve YOUR community?

This would be ideal for corporate partners for team building or for anyone who wants to come out and serve the community during this week!

2025 VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Tax Site Volunteers with Tempe Community Council

Come help the Tempe Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site for the 2025 tax filing season. Vita is an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) directed Program. Tempe Community Council hosts a Tempe site where any income eligible taxpayer can have their tax returns prepared and filed for free.

This is a vital service for the community that helps save taxpayers many dollars that would be spent paying for a tax filing service.

Volunteer responsibilities include the following:

  • Greeter/Screener (greet and do intake with the client to ensure that they have all of the documents needed and are prepared to meet with a tax preparer)
  • Tax Preparer (prepare basic 1040 tax forms and answer tax related questions)
  • Quality Reviewer (review all tax forms checking that they are complete and correct prior to signature and submission)

 All volunteers are required to complete appropriate IRS training.

The site is open 3 days per week which include 2 weekdays from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am -2:00 pm. The tax site will be open from mid-January through mid-April.

Threadz Teen Clothes Closet Volunteers Needed with Tempe Community Council

Come assist local middle and high school students to be successful in school by helping them to get needed clothing, personal care products and school supplies in a fun, appealing boutique setting. All items are free to students!

There are three Threadz locations listed below:

  1.  Tempe High School (1730 S. Mill Ave., Tempe)
  2. Marcos de Niza High School (6000 S. Lakeshore Drive, Tempe)
  3. Mountain Pointe High School (4201 E Knox Rd, Ahwatukee)

Volunteers are needed Tuesdays – Thursdays after school from 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Ongoing – STARDUST Gifts In Kind Distribution Center Volunteers Needed

Since 1997, Stardust has been a champion of environmentally sustainable practices that encourage waste reduction and reuse. They work with local retailers to collect overstocked, returned or slightly damaged inventory that would otherwise be thrown away. They then redistribute it to non-profit organizations who can use the donated items for clients or operational needs.

Stardust is in need of volunteers for their daily Distribution Center!

Distribution occurs Tuesday – Thursday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. They need 2-3 volunteers at a time within these hours. Volunteers are also needed Monday – Friday to help organize and stock the distribution center.

Volunteer responsibilities include helping organizations select and document the materials they receive as well as help prepare for their Holiday Distribution Event on Friday, November 22nd.
