MLK Jr. Week of Service - Grassroots Gifts in Kind Fair

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr's birthday, please join us as we come together at the ToolBank to set up for a gifts in kind fair for our grassroots non-profit partners and assist them in finding needed items for their organizations. Martin Luther King Jr. was a social activist and community leader who, with his grand vision and voice, changed the lives of millions, and what better way to honor his legacy than to serve YOUR community.

Duties:

·         Set up and assist with Non-Profit Gifts in Kind Fair

·         Warehouse clean up and organization

Special Notes:

·         This is an indoor/outdoor event.

·         Closed toe shoes required.

MLK Jr. Week of Service - Hygiene Kits

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr's birthday, please join VSUW as we assemble Hygiene Kits for nonprofit partner beneficiary organization, Gervonni Cares! These kits support critical needs in the housing and homelessness space. Gervonni Cares provides assistance and resources that address food insecurity, housing stability, financial literacy, and workforce development.

Duties:

You will pack hygiene kits assembly line style, placing multiple items in a baggie, zipping, counting, and boxing completed kits.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr's birthday, please join VSUW as we assemble Winter Kits + First Aid Kits for nonprofit partner beneficiary organization, Keys to Change! These kits support critical needs in the housing and homelessness space. Through prevention, intervention, and increased access to housing, Keys to Change aims to fortify our community and create change that ends homelessness for good.

MLK Jr. Week of Service - Community Book in a Bag

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr's birthday, please join VSUW as we assemble Book in a Bags highlighting the Civil Rights movement and help create Encouragement Cards and Bookmarks to include in the bags! These will be donated to nonprofit partner beneficiary 7th Dream Helping Hearts.

Duties:

·         Decorating paper bags to match the theme of a book related to equity, equality and diversity

·         Placing the books in bags and packing up for distribution to children at local non-profits and schools

City of Phoenix CSFD Volunteer Opportunity - Encouragement Card Activity 

Please join Valley of the Sun United Way in creating Encouragement cards for children with positive phrases like “Keep it Up”, “You Rock”, and more to show that a caring adult knows they will succeed. These cards will be tucked away into Valley of the Sun Way pantry packs and distributed throughout Maricopa County.

Please keep the Encouragement cards gender and religious neutral, glitter free and should not make reference to economic status.

City of Phoenix CSFD Volunteer Opportunity - T-Shirt Dog Toys

As humankind’s loyal and steadfast friend, dogs emotionally support their pack. One of the ways we, as their family, support them back is by helping them stay active so they don’t get bored. Toys at the pet store can be expensive, and for some families getting to the store is a challenge. With a few old t-shirts and a “paws” in your day, you can make this quick and easy upcycled toy for a furry community friend.

Created toys will be distributed to pet owners across Maricopa County served by organizations such as AZ Pet Project, Human Services Campus for their Project Connect and AZ Veterans Stand Down, and others

Become a Reading Tutor with AARP Experience Corps!

To become a volunteer tutor, you must be at least 50
years old, possess a high school diploma, and agree to:
• Volunteer two days per week, for a total of 5 hours,
• Participate in a two-day training session, plus ongoing
training throughout the school year,
• Attend monthly meetings, and
• Successfully pass a background check.

Support the Arizona Diaper Bank

Arizona Diaper Bank needs volunteers for a diaper bundling party! Volunteers will be in a warehouse bundling approximately 7500-8000 diapers between 9am to 12pm. Diapers will be bundled in 10s, labeled, and shrink wrapped.This is a fun competitive event with bonding and teamwork! Please wear close toed shoes and bring water! Event can accommodate up to 20 volunteers. The youngest volunteer must be 12 with adult supervision.

In the first and second Tuesday of each month the Arizona Diaper Bank needs volunteers for their monthly partner agency pick and pack. Volunteers will be in a warehouse selecting items that their partner agencies have ordered. Please wear close toed shoes and bring water! Event can accommodate up to 25 volunteers. The youngest volunteer must be 12 with adult supervision.
